Tips for Tackling Winter Allergies - Pt. 2

Posted by Allergena on

We have recently been focusing on the winter allergies that many people experience due to being indoors so much during the cold months. In our last post, we began covering the many ways you can prevent winter allergies from controlling your life in the coming months and in this post we will conclude that list. Below you can find some more ways to reduce the effect winter allergies have on you this winter.

5. Make your bedroom an allergen-free zone

You probably don’t feel like you spend the majority of your time in your bedroom, but in comparison to the rest of the rooms in your home, you absolutely do. This is why it is important that you take action to have the fewest possible allergy triggers as possible in this part of your house. This means keeping pets, rugs, and plants out of the room to make sure you are avoiding both dust mites and mold.

6. Spray your Christmas tree down

This may seem odd but your Christmas tree likely is covered in dust from being in storage all year long. Make sure you spray your tree down with a hose before setting it up for the holidays.

7. Get high-efficiency furnace filters

A high-efficiency furnace filter will trap up to 30 times more allergens that a typical furnace filter will. It’s a good idea to make sure that your furnace is always on throughout the season

8.Watch the humidity

Your indoor humidity level should always be between 30 and 40 percent, especially if you suffer from seasonal allergies. Depending on where you live, you will likely need to invest in either a humidifier or a dehumidifier in order to accomplish getting the proper humidity levels.

9.Don’t forget to service your humidifier

Speaking of humidifiers, make sure that you change your filters based on the manufacturer’s recommendations. This will prevent contamination by bacteria and mold.

10.Always be looking for allergy-causing culprits

Inspect your home every month for signs of visible mold. Areas like the basement are notorious for being a breeding ground for mold formation.
