Combating The Coming Seasonal Allergies Symptoms

Posted by Allergena on

Regardless of where you are located in the United States, chances are your allergies are going to act up now that spring is almost here. While some people have such mild symptoms that they don’t really need to worry about how they’re going to make it through the season, there are others who can’t seem to find relief from the moment March starts until the end of May or June. If you are someone who has this problem and you have suffered from seasonal allergies your whole life, you might already know the tips we are about to divulge. On the other hand, if you are someone who just started experiencing the symptoms of seasonal allergies in recent years, you might not have the first clue how you can alleviate the worst of them. Continue reading below to learn how to best alleviate these allergy symptoms.

Stay Indoors

We hate to give this advice because we know it is finally starting to get nice outside, but the more you expose yourself to the pollen in the air, the more seasonal allergy symptoms you are going to have. Staying indoors on the days when the pollen count is high is a great idea to decreased the likelihood of you sneezing, itching, and more. Conversely, feel free to head outside on the days when it is drizzling or overcast as this type of weather is going to be much easier on your airways.

Close the Windows of Your House

While you might be tempted to open the windows of your home and let the fresh spring air in, you will also be letting the pollen in as well. Your home should be your oasis from all of the pollen-heavy air so don’t let your haven be invaded. If it gets too hot in your home as the temperatures rise, consider turning on your air conditioner so that you are constantly breathing fresh air. You will also want to follow this rule when you are in your car as well. Turn on the air and leave the windows up.

Cover Yourself Up

You may not think this is necessary but we would beg to differ. If you head outside on a high pollen day, cover your mouth and nose with a bandana and guard your eyes with sunglasses. If you feel that is a bit extreme, at least consider doing this when you are doing yard work. You may even want to consider wearing a hat so the pollen won’t stick to your hair and remain on your body once the yard work is complete.

Shower Often

Showering more than you typically would during other seasons will actually help greatly with your allergy symptoms. When you shower, you are washing all of the pollen off your skin, as well as out of your hair that you have been exposed to when you were outside. While it won’t solve your allergy problems, it will definitely help.
